More action in good ole Germantown, summer of 2010!

Lets see, Germantown has seen alot of weather related incidents this year!  An precedented BLIZZARD that cost us some serious money and an old rusty shed, oh and my magnolia tree and my sanity....then an earthquake that came from outa no where, well underground that shook us up a bit.  I thought it was someone blowing up the Dept of Energy, or an airplane getting ready to crash. It sounded like an Amtrak train was running across our front lawn. Scary!!  Then... the thunderstorms and tornado warnings(kids stayed in the basement on that one) that scared the crap outa me(hate tornadoes but yet facinated by them...go figure).  Hope we have a fairly calm Fall and Winter!  I love Fall, it's my favorite season! :)

Buried tree stumps

That's what the hole was!! Rotting wood under the ground that the construction crew who built this neighborhood buried back in the 1960's. Well we had a fun day digging and filling it in!  Always a new adventure here in Germantown!!

No word yet from Maryland Geologic Survey

At least the hole isn't getting any bigger!  I roped off the area to keep the kids away and to remind them not to go in that area because a giant knarly dragon lives under where I roped off and if they step foot across the ropes the dragon will poke his head outa the hole and burn their little footsies to a crisp!  OK...I really didn't say that, but I was  thinking about it.

Sinkhole mystery

There seems to be a mysterious depression developing in the corner of the backyard. I was digging a hole to plant my tree and at the bottom of my foot deep hole there was another hole, a dark black one that the dirt fell into.  This is the stuff of nightmares( at least for me anyway)! I stuck my shovel into it and it kept going, so I quickly pulled it out and stepped away from the hole.  That's when the hairy knarled hand reached out and grabbed my ankle and dragged me into the black smelly hole....Sike! That part was fiction!  Anyway..My heart pounding, I shoveled the dirt back into the hole and called my husband at work.  Yikes!! When you stand back away from the depression it's noticeable enough to be alarming. So I called the Maryland Geological Survey and left a message for them to call me back...which they haven't yet.  I'll call again today to see if they answer or if my message fell into a sinkhole like the one in the backyard.

Blue Bubble People

OK, now I'm totally creeped out!  To make a long story short, my daughter alluded to seeing "dead people".
(shiver)  We were in the basement boilerroom and she was right behind me and she pulled on my robe and said "come on, Mommy. Let's go. The people don't want us here" I said "What people?" She said " The blue bubble people." I said, " Where are they?" She said "Right behind you" I said, "Why do they want me to go?" She said "They are getting angry. Because they want to get out of the house but they can't".  (Shiver)
I grabbed her hand and we promptly went back upstairs.  This explains why one of my sons won't go in the basement by himself, even with the lights on in the daytime. (Shiver)
